armenian cucumber essence
ARMENIAN CUCUMBER ESSENCE

this essence is incredibly special, having come from heirloom seeds given to me by a colleague in 2014 which had been given to her by a first generation Armenian neighbor who’s parents had first come to tucson in the 1960s.
that first summer i grew this plant from seed we had record monsoon rains and after i had tried every recipe i could find + shared the wealth w friends and neighbors, traded endlessly across the tucson backyard gardeners groups - we had POUNDS on pounds of cukes. this plant is unbelievably prolific and profoundly resilient even in the extreme sonoran summer heat.
since that summer, i’ve been blessed to have met and learned from so many Armenian + queer Armenian folks of the diaspora - learning about their culture, plant medicines and long fight against genocidal extermination at the hands of yet another supremacist military power.
armenian cucumber essence is a light in dark places - providing a sense of renewal within the emotional body, refreshment to the physical body + supporting deep transformation of despair / shock / turmoil into life affirming creativity and abundance even through drought. this plant, like it’s people, continue to grow and provide sustenance even under extreme conditions.
last year, i felt like this would be a perfect essence to send off to resistances networks and have continued to send this formula out wherever and whenever i can. All liberatory struggles against apartheid and suprematist militarism are connected. as are All revolutionary actions which center the care and survival of oppressed people globally.
getting to know / growing and working with people AND plants from the SWANA region has taught me so much about resiliency, generosity, beauty as a form of medicine and the ways in which community care / literally feeding each other is central to both bringing AND keeping people together.
